Tierrasanta Library History
Before the current building, Tierrasanta hosted bookmobile services in the 1970s at the northwest corner of Santo Road and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. There was no grocery store or gas station back then! In 1978, the original Friends of the Tierrasanta Library organization was formed, championing the establishment of a permanent library for the neighborhood. The original builders for the neighborhood, Christiana Builders, donated a 900-square-foot octagonal building and moved it to the current library site. That building can still be found at the Tierrasanta Recreation Center. Following extensive advocacy from the Friends, the current library was constructed in 1984 and underwent an expansion in 2019.
